“I just sat there, and one day he came out with a lot of people around him and I just started hollering his name. He wouldn't look my way but I started yelling, ‘Mayor Daley, I need to start a soup kitchen,’ and he stopped, looked at me, and told his secretary to take down my name and number. I thought this man wasn’t going to call me, but he called me.”
